Ridum KulshresthaAugust 29, 2023 Super impressed by Dr Gireesh’s expertise. He provided me with the correct diagnosis and consultation. This was my first trip to any dentist so far in 30 years of my life. I had heard all wrong things about other dental clinics that how sometimes they try to misdiagnose to convert you into a repeat customer. But was super happy when Dr Gireesh told me the exact procedure I needed, not exactly the expensive one which was told to me earlier. Additionally, he took time to answer all my concerns and questions. Highly recommend Molar Support. 👍🏻 Miss PriyaFebruary 18, 2023 My sister had a her dental implants in this clinic and I must say, the whole procedure was very well carried out. TREATMENT DETAILS
Good oral hygiene is not just about having a good smile. Complete oral care is about taking care of your teeth and gums. Gums are the supporting tissues of your teeth that affect the health of the teeth. Common gum problems that need your attention are bleeding gums, gum recession, pyorrhea, gummy smile, and bad breath.
Several studies have confirmed the connection between the bacteria causing gum problems and general health issues like diabetes and heart problems.
The main reason for any gum problem is poor oral hygiene. Irregular brushing or inefficient technique leads to plaque buildup. Plaque is a slimy layer deposited on the tooth that contains bacteria. If left untreated, plaque hardens to form tartar. Tartar is difficult to remove with regular brushing and leads to gum irritation. The tartar causes changes in the gums’ color and texture. This is the initial stage of gum problems called gingivitis. The advanced stage begins when this initial stage is left untreated, and the disease spreads to the supporting tissues of the teeth.
Some of the specific signs of gum disease are mentioned below. Some signs may not be present in every case, and others may occur together. It is, therefore, advised to get your complete dental examination done at Molar Support Dental Clinic. A thorough clinical examination by our chief dentist, Dr Gireesh Likhyani, helps detect the problem early. Some of the common signs are:
When an excess amount of gum tissue is visible while smiling, this condition is known as a gummy smile. A Gummy smile makes your smile less aesthetic by making your teeth appear smaller due to excessive gummy tissue visible.
Gum recession is a condition in which the root surface of the teeth is exposed due to gums pulling themselves back. Root exposure leads to problems like tooth sensitivity and root caries.
There are various treatments done by Dr Gireesh Likhyani at Molar Support Dental Clinic. The choice of treatment depends upon the severity of the disease and is determined after doing a comprehensive examination of your case.
Professional teeth cleaning or dental scaling removes the hard deposits or tartar from the tooth surface. The plaque accumulation over some time hardens to form tartar. This tartar irritates the gums, causing changes in their color and texture. A dental scaler uses ultrasonic vibrations to dislodge these deposits.
Deep cleaning removes the dead and infected portions from the tooth’s root portion. Regular cleaning aims at cleaning the visible crown portion of the tooth, whereas deep cleaning or curettage aims to remove the hidden bacteria from the root surface lining of the tooth.
Gingivoplasty is the procedure that aims at reshaping the gums in terms of their forms and shape. The procedure is also known as gum reshaping or gum recontouring. It is necessary to improve the aesthetics of the front teeth significantly. It is used to increase the crown length in the front tooth region and combines bone recontouring in some cases for better prosthesis placement. It is a necessary procedure that affects the longevity of the dental prosthesis in the long run by facilitating better oral hygiene maintenance.
The gums overgrowth is a common side effect of certain medicines like anti-epileptics and during hormonal changes like puberty and pregnancy. The process of removing the excess gum tissue is known as a gingivectomy.
In cases of gums recession, flap surgeries take flaps of variable thickness from donor sites to place them on the deficient area. Flap surgeries are indicated in severe recession cases under local anesthesia.
The primary aim of the surgery is to allow the gum tissue to grow back. We will use a graft that can be synthetic or natural to induce the growth of the gums back in the recession areas. It is an effective way to combat gum recession.
